Euronext suspended the trading debut of CoinShares’ Zcash exchange-traded product (ETP), ticker ZCSH, on Wednesday in Paris. The suspension occurred immediately before the scheduled launch and remains in effect until further notice. While the official exchange notice did not specify a reason, Euronext’s press and communications manager, Flavio Bornancin-Tomasella, clarified that the halt is due to operational settlement requirements. Specifically, the ETP will remain suspended until standard settlement operations can be fully supported by the Central Securities Depository (CSD). This delay prevents CoinShares from becoming the fourth company to list a Zcash-based ETP in Europe this year, following launches by 21Shares, Virtune, and Valor. CoinShares had announced the planned launch earlier that same day but did not respond to requests for comment regarding the suspension.
The abrupt suspension highlights the friction between crypto asset listings and traditional financial market infrastructure. Although the underlying asset, Zcash, has been listed elsewhere in Europe, the inability to support standard settlement operations via the CSD suggests specific technical or compliance hurdles unique to this product's structure or custody arrangements. It underscores that regulatory approval or market interest does not guarantee seamless integration into legacy settlement systems.
For institutional investors and issuers, this event serves as a cautionary tale regarding operational readiness. The reliance on the Central Securities Depository for final settlement means that any gap in compatibility between the ETP’s mechanics and the CSD’s protocols can halt trading entirely. Stakeholders should monitor whether CoinShares resolves these settlement issues quickly or if the product faces prolonged delays, which could impact its competitive position against the three other Zcash ETPs already active in the European market.
