Bitcoin (BTC) has maintained support at $82,500 as traders prepare for the release of US inflation data ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee’s October 28 meeting. The September Consumer Price Index and Producer Price Index are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, with markets anticipating a CPI uptick to 3.7% year-on-year due to Middle East military action and fuel price surges. Current CME FedWatch data indicates an 18.8% probability of a rate hike on October 28 from the existing 3.75-4.00% range, while December odds stand at 70.6% for a 25 basis point increase.
Amidst this backdrop, US bond yields have retreated from recent highs, with the 10-year yield at 5.24% and the 30-year at 5.60%. President Donald Trump announced a deal to purchase 300,000 tons of diesel from Russia and declared an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, though Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated he was unaware of such an agreement. WTI crude oil traded near $91.50 per barrel, while Bitcoin closed its weekly candle at approximately $83,700, marking a 3.2% decline but preserving the critical $82,500 support level.
The preservation of the $82,500 support level is technically significant because it prevents Bitcoin from reverting to its previous long-term trading range of $60,000 to $80,000. Analysts suggest that a successful retest of this floor could encourage institutional reaccumulation, mirroring patterns seen during the recovery from the 2022 bear market. However, the asset's trajectory remains heavily tethered to macroeconomic indicators, specifically the upcoming CPI and PPI prints, which will directly influence Federal Reserve policy expectations and real yield pressures.
Geopolitical developments, including the proposed Russian diesel purchase and the disputed energy ceasefire announcement, introduce volatility into commodity markets that indirectly affect crypto sentiment through broader risk appetite. While lower-than-expected inflation readings typically benefit risk assets by reducing tightening odds, the current uncertainty surrounding both monetary policy and geopolitical stability creates a fragile environment. Traders must monitor whether traditional equities, like the S&P 500, continue their pattern of key-level retests, as Bitcoin often correlates with these structural shifts in stock market behavior.
