Mt. Gox has extended its creditor repayment deadline to October 31, 2027, marking the sixth postponement since rehabilitation proceedings began in 2023. Rehabilitation trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi announced that the Tokyo District Court approved moving the deadline for base, early lump-sum, and intermediate payments from October 31, 2026, to the new date. The extension aims to accommodate creditors who have not yet completed required procedures or those facing processing issues.

Kobayashi stated that repayments for creditors who finished the necessary steps without complications were largely complete, with exceptions for certain payment types. However, a significant number of claimants remain unpaid due to incomplete documentation or administrative hurdles. This latest delay follows two shorter extensions earlier in 2023 and represents the fourth extension since September 2023. Mt. Gox initiated repayments in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash in July 2024. By March 2025, the exchange reported that more than 19,500 creditors had received their funds.

The trustee’s notice did not specify the exact number of remaining unpaid creditors or the total amount of Bitcoin still awaiting distribution. Market data from Arkham Intelligence indicates that wallets attributed to Mt. Gox held approximately 34,400 BTC, valued at about $2.8 billion, as of Tuesday. This substantial holding suggests ongoing liquidity concerns for the market as the final settlement phase continues.
