US spot Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have recorded net outflows totaling $1.08 billion since the start of October, according to SoSoValue data. This figure includes a $26 million withdrawal on Tuesday, marking the largest monthly net outflow for these funds since November 2025. The sustained cash drain has erased September’s $832 million in net inflows, reducing year-to-date net inflows for Ether ETFs to approximately $485 million.
The outflows coincide with a decline in Ether’s market value, which fell 9.7% in October from $2,700 to $2,438 at the time of publication. Data from CoinGecko indicates that ETH was down nearly 18% throughout 2026. Despite eight trading sessions remaining in the month, October has already surpassed previous monthly withdrawal records for this period.
In contrast, US spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced mixed flows during the same timeframe. On Tuesday, Bitcoin ETFs recorded $23 million in net inflows, following $527 million in inflows on Monday. However, overall October activity for Bitcoin ETFs shows about $67 million in net outflows, leaving year-to-date net inflows at roughly $809 million. Bitcoin traded at $82,954, reflecting a 2.2% decrease since October 1 and a 5.3% drop year-to-date.
The divergence between Ether and Bitcoin ETF flows highlights distinct investor sentiment toward major digital assets amid broader market corrections. While both cryptocurrencies faced price declines in October, Ether ETFs suffered significantly higher capital withdrawals relative to their total assets under management compared to Bitcoin ETFs. This suggests that institutional or retail investors may be reallocating away from Ether more aggressively than Bitcoin, possibly due to differing risk perceptions or portfolio rebalancing strategies during periods of volatility.
Market structure implications arise from the fact that October’s outflows have wiped out prior gains, indicating fragile confidence in Ether’s near-term trajectory. With year-to-date inflows now substantially lower than those for Bitcoin, Ether faces challenges in maintaining its position as a primary alternative asset class within regulated investment vehicles. Investors should monitor whether continued negative flows correlate with further price depreciation or if stabilization occurs as the month concludes.
